Text Box: Are you getting bored with the beginner tactics you learned as a scrap-booker just starting out? Are all of your scrapbooks starting to look the same? If so, it may be time that you began implementing advanced techniques to take your scrapbooks to a higher level.

If you’re beginning to lose inspiration for your scrapbooks, take a look at the following advanced techniques and see if it opens the door to more scrapbooking fulfillment for you:

Matchbook scrapbooks – You can show off small photos in a scrapbooking format that look like a tiny matchbook! For instance, many parents take a picture of their child’s first day of school each year.

You can use a cover that resembles a tiny matchbook that opens up and displays the child’s school picture for that year. Plus, you might want to include some special memories about that school year.

Use up those leftover scraps - You can create a mosaic border for your scrapbooking pages. If you have some leftover scraps that you don’t know what to do with, just cut them up into little pieces and create a mosaic piece to add to the scrapbooking page.

Place them on a background page that’s a contrasting color to the colors you plan to use for your mosaic so that you can give the illusion of grout that would be seen in a ceramic mosaic pattern.

Add some silhouettes - Silhouette cropping your photos gives your scrapbook page a new dimension that will make the page pop. By cutting close to the subject lines, you can make the picture seem real to those browsing through the pages.

Add decorative cuts - Want to make your cuts more interesting and less plain Jane? Use decorative scrapbooking scissors. You can cut different shapes into your project with triangles, corkscrew and art deco patterns.

Design your own background - If you can’t find the background paper you want, then try designing your own unique pattern! Take a piece of background paper and sponge paint it with the color and shapes that you want. You can even finger-paint it if you want – get creative.

Scrapbooking can be fun for the beginners as well as the more advanced memory-keeper. Create your own projects and come up with new ideas for your scrapbooking hobby to share with others. Bring your scrapbooking creative juices to the surface and let them flow.

Scrapbooking has become a part of your life and lets you spend some of your down time doing something fun and creative. You may even wish you could quit your day job to spend more time at it!

Actually, this may be an option worth looking into. Scrapbooking businesses are becoming popular these days.  Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions about the scrapbooking business:

Do I need special skills to do this?

Outside of the fact that you would need to have done some scrapbooking to be efficient at it, the only other skill would be a little business know-how. You would need to be organized, know how to market your business and be able to run the company efficiently. Most of those skills can be learned from the Internet or by taking some small business courses in your community.

What equipment would I need to get started?

This would depend on how you want to run your business. You should have some scrapbooking equipment that would include books, paper, design scissors, and whatever embellishment items you would want to provide.

Some of the equipment you may not need to purchase until you start to get your orders.  You may want to invest in scrapbooking software to help you design unique one-of-a-kind pages you can offer to your customers.

You should have a website to promote your business and show your prospective customers your portfolio of work. You’ll also need packing materials for shipping the finished scrapbooks to the customers.

Photo editing software and a high quality printer might be nice for printing the photographs that the Internet customers would email to you. If you choose to only market your business locally, then you may not need some of the items like the computer and software. It all depends on how you want to execute your business.

I want to start my own scrapbooking business, but I don’t have the time to make all of those scrapbooks. Can I still get into this?

Yes, you can still have a scrapbooking business without having to actually make all of the scrapbooks. There are many direct sales opportunities out there to choose from - where you only need to sell the products to people so they can make their own scrapbooks!

Start up costs would then be minimal. You would have to purchase a starter kit and if you choose to sell on the Internet, you would need to have a website to sell them on. Browse through the different direct sales opportunities and find what suits you because some may offer you a website with their starter kit.

This allows you to make money from selling the products, and you can also have fun throwing parties to promote the scrapbooking products. Scrapbooking can be a lucrative business if you come up with a plan that fits into your budget of both time and money.

Text Box: Scrapbooking has become a nice hobby for you to creatively display some of your favorite pictures. If everyone raves about your abilities as a scrapbooking genius, you might want to create a scrapbook to give as a gift for those who don’t have the talent or the time to make beautiful keepsakes like you do!

It’s easy to shop online or mosey into a local store and pick up a present for someone you love. But a personalized gift means you’ve put your heart into it – and it will be far more treasured than a department-store gift would be.

Is someone you know having an anniversary? The first year of marriage is the paper anniversary – an ideal time to deliver a scrapbook of memories to a bride and groom just starting their lives together.

Older couples would also enjoy scrapbook keepsakes to look back on the years they’ve spent together. Put together a scrapbook that shows as much as you can share about the couple, but add some blank pages so that each of them can add their own memories to the scrapbook form their own perspective.

Milestone birthdays are another perfect opportunity to give a scrapbook as a gift. Someone turning 40 would enjoy an “Over-the-Hill” scrapbook that shows their lives up to that point – providing they have a good sense of humor.

Someone who’s retiring might also love a scrapbook that shares their time spent with a company. To many, their work family is an integral part of their lives, and having a scrapbook to look back on and remember the people and place would be a gift they treasure for years.

Your themed pages could include ladder climbing, showing their progress as they were promoted up in the ranks. Add a few blank pages to include pictures and mementos (as well as notes) about the retirement party itself.

Scrapbooks are great gifts to give someone for holidays or everyday occasions. They’re easy and fun to make and show you put a lot of thought into the gift. Scrapbooks that have photos of the past bring an overwhelming amount of happy memories they can relive and enjoy all over again.

For years, our ancestors have used photo albums to display precious memories the family holds dear.  Most were plain and simply doubled as storage for pictures, with no room for journaling to explain the origin of a photo.

The photo album has come a long way.  Now it’s evolved into a scrapbook – a memory holder that not only displays your photos, but does it in a unique way that projects a theme for the reader and tells a story for generations to come.

Scrapbooking can be done in a simple manner, adding a note or two here in conjunction with an image so that those viewing the picture can understand more about it.  Or, it can be elaborate – with stickers, designer paper and specially-cut edges, and entire scrapbooks centered around an individual theme.

Instead of parents putting photos in a box to place neatly into a photo album on a rainy day, scrapbooking devotees have formed exclusive clubs for their obsession – some even hosting overnight parties and entire vacations reserved for nothing but scrapbooking and socializing!

With many old photo albums, the pictures weren’t displayed in any organized manner.  But now, with themed pages, you can decorate your scrapbook in a myriad of ways.  You can have scrapbooks reserved for vacations, sporting events, holidays, individual members of your family, weddings, and more.

Instead of just looking at a page with pictures of the family at the beach, your scrapbook can include memories of that trip, with specifics like where it was taken, when, and any funny or sentimental stories you’d like to add.

How you design your themed pages is totally up to you. You can use pre designed paper to display the photos onto or design one of your own. You can matte the photos to make them stand out if you want or you can just add photo corner tabs to make it a simple design.

Scrapbooking has no limitations. Photo albums are just places to keep your photos in one place without losing them. Scrapbooks are much more than that. They’re memory-making books that provide as much entertainment in making them as you had during the events in the pictures.

You can even take some of your old photo albums and turn them into scrapbooks that look better and are more enjoyable for your visitors to peruse.  Don’t be afraid to tap into your creative side and see what kind of designs you can come up with on your own!

Text Box: Scrapbooking can be a fun hobby to start for anyone who loves taking pictures and showing them to others. It’s so easy to do that even a beginner can catch on quickly. If scrapbooking intimidates you because you’ve seen some elaborate creations, just follow some of these beginner tips to hone your skills into a bona fide scrapbooking pro:

Matting - By simply matting your photos, you can instantly change the look of your picture and make it stand out on the page. Double matting is even more effective to making a picture stand out. Use white or light colored mattes first and a contrasting color to matte the picture in last. For the contrasting-colored matte, use a color that’s in the photo to really make it pop.

Pre-made designed pages - If you’re not comfortable designing your own pages for your pictures, then buy some pre-made scrapbooking pages from any hobby store. You can simply attach your photos on these pages however you want and add any extra things - like stickers or content.

Rubber stamping - Consider using rubber stamps to add a little spice to your themed scrapbooking pages. Take a day at the zoo and bring more life to the scrapbook page by rubber stamping zoo animals periodically throughout the page.

Don’t forget the words - No scrapbooking page can be complete without some text scattered here and there on the themed page. You can use your own handwriting to write what you want or print something off of the computer and cut it out to place on your scrapbook page. Words can help keep the memory of that special day alive.

Something old, something new, something special - To make a scrapbooking page more personal and special to you, add some sort of physical item from that day. For example, a wedding scrapbook page could use something like one of the flowers from the bouquet or a wedding napkin to immortalize that day in your life.

Get others involved - Recruit your children or friends and have them design their own pages for their photos. It can be the perfect way to pass the time on a rainy day when you can’t get outside.

If the kids aren’t old enough, you can do the cutting and pasting, but let them add stickers and choose the colors they want. They can even add some of their own artwork to the pages if they want!

Use stencils - If you want to add some little graphics to your scrapbook, but can’t draw, consider using stencils. There are many stencils out there that have all kinds of shapes you can trace onto your scrapbook page.

Scrapbooking is the easiest hobby you can start! Once you’re comfortable as a beginner, you’ll find it easy to implement new ideas you stumble upon for your scrapbooking pages.
